Forsythia Bush Has Started To Turn Brown After Severe Pruning

Question From: Huntley, Illinois, United States
Q: I have a 10 yr old Forthesia Bush. I've always kept it nicely pruned throughout summer months, but this year I decided to grossly cut it back because it was getting too large. After a couple of cuttings, the Bush is starting to turned Brown. Could this be as a result of me cutting it back?

A: To reduce the size of a mature it is best to do it in stages - A third every year. This is best done in late winter or early spring. Leaves manufacture food for the shrub. It's not starving in hot dry weather. Keep it well watered and hope for the best. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
