Forsythia Hedge Plants Are Dying And Have Mold At Split Of Branches

Q: Our Forcythia hedge plants are dying they have a mold growth at the split of the branches. Is there a solution that I can purchase to spray on the plants?

A: What you see is not a disease. You have lichens growing on your shrub. They will not kill the shrub, but they don't look very attractive. Make sure the shrub is getting enough sum and be sure to keep it watered. I would fertilize it with Espoma Plant-Tone according to package directions when you get a cool day. day. Then fertilize it annually in late winter or early fall. Take these photos to an Independent garden center to find a product that will remove the lichens
