Geranium Cuttings Turn Red Under Fluorescent Lights

Question From: MICHIGAN
Q: I make several cuttings of geraniums which I try to root under fluorescent lights. For some reason all the cutting leaves turned to a bright red and even the new shoots loose their green and turn red.Could you tell me the reason? Thank you

A: My guess is cold temperatures. Get a maximum/temperature thermometer to track how low the temperatures drop at night, when the lights go off. Preferred soil temps for soil when rooting cuttings is 70 to 75 degrees. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
