Getting General Vegetable Gardening Resources And Information

Question From: H. richard - FLORIDA
Q: I am planning to grow a garden with Broccoli, Carrots, Spinach,Tomatoes, lettuce, purple cabbage and okra in it. Could you recommend me some soils and fertilizers to used and where I could purchase them cheaply . Lastly can you just give me any other tips for a successful garden. Thank you so much.

A:

Cheap is often a mistake when it comes to gardening. The fertilizers by

Espoma

are reasonable in price, organic and are good for plants and the soil. They also contain beneficial organisms. You can buy them at Home Depot.

I live in Michigan, so can't help you with soils. I suggest you go to a good independent garden center and ask them to walk you through their products, keeping in mind you get what you pay for. Compost is great to add to the soil when planting. I suggest you get a book on vegetable gardening in Florida. Check them out on Amazon. Best and Happy Yardening, Nancy.
