Grass Under Crepe Myrtle Trees Looks Like Oil Has Been Spilled On It

Question From: S. Cordell - Germantown, Tennessee, United States
Q: On the grass underneath three of my Crepe Myrtles it looks like oil has been spilled. Is this some type of disease?

It's probably black sooty mold that develops on the honey dew from aphids. If they were mine I would have a professional on-site inspection. To find a certified arborist in your areal go to www.tica.org and type in your zip code. Best Nancy
