Hibiscus Covered With Small Black Insects

Question From: Central, South Carolina, United States
Q: My hibiscus is covered in what look like small black insects - I've been away for couple weeks and friend has been watering it for me - is there anything I can do or have I lost it? Still flowering

You probably have black bean aphids. Hose the plant down with a stiff spray of water and spray it with Safer Insect Killing Soap. You will need to repeat the process two or three more times. Hibiscus are prone to these and other insects so a weekly shower is a good idea. Best Nancy and Happy Gardening
