Hickory Tree Bark Has Mostly Fallen Off

Question From: G. Beaucheane - Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: My Hickory tree lost almost all of its' bark. Then it seemed to partially grow back, then fell off again. It lay in large piles around the base of the tree. It had leaves last year & seemed OK. Is this typical?

No it is not typical and I fear your tree is toast. Take photos to a good independent nursery that grows these trees for advice. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
