Question From: E. Kook - Emmaus, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: 'Enjoying my new Himalayan pines for about a year now; 'would like to know what kind of soil (PH?)would make them thrive? And/or should I fertilize with something else other than an average pine fertilizer spike?
A: Spikes are not a good way to fertilize trees and shrubs as the product does not move sideways through the soil and a high salt content can burn roots near the spike. I would use Espoma Tree Tone. The tree is a slow grower, but will get huge. It prefers acidic sandy loam. Check with a certified arborist in your area as to the requirements of a Himalayn Pine.
