Hollyhocks Not Growing And Not Flowering

Question From: D. Nice - TENNESSEE
Q: I planted hollyhocks 3 years ago. they produce leaves but will not grow upwards or sideways or any other way they just sit there with leaves and are about 6 inches tall. this has been going on for 3 years. what is wrong?

A:

Debbie, plants usually fail to flower due to lack of sun, lack of water and/or excessive heat or too much fertilizer. Since yours are not growing tall it sounds like it may be sun and/or water. Happy Yardening, Nancy
