Home Made Pepper Insecticide For Cabbage Maggots

Question From: J. Pruett - Marion, Virginia, United States
Q: I remember my mother using a mixture of flour(?) and red pepper flakes. Do you by chance know anything about this, and what the ratio might be? Thanks

A: I have not heard of this home made insecticide, but cayenne pepper or chili pepper powder are often used in a spray form for cabbage maggots and other pests. Google home made pesticides using hot peppers and you will find dozens of recipes. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
