Honey Locust Tree Seed Pods Are Smaller And Have No Seeds In Them

Question From: M. Bonin - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States
Q: I have a honey locust tree. It's about 23 years old. It has always dropped seed pods, and lots of little seedlings have sprouted in my yard. I was going to take some of the seeds and give them to my son to plant in his yard, and I discovered the pods that have fallen this year have no seeds in them. What does this mean? Is my tree dying? Also, the pods that are falling now are very small in comparison to years past.Thank you!

I would say your tree is definitely stressed, I am not a trained tree doctor so do not diagnose problems. If it were my tree I would get an onsite inspection from a certified arborist. To find a professional in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Good Luck, Nancy
