Honeysuckle Has Fewer Leaves Than Previous Year

Question From: Everett, Washington, United States
Q: My honeysuckle is 10+ years old. This Spring it has very few leaves compared to all the years prior. Is it just old?

A specie honeysuckle can live 100 years. Yours may be one of a hundred species or a hybrid, so I have no way of knowing. Unseasonable warm weather in winter and spring can cause early bud break that kills leaves. Many plants have latent buds that leaf out later in the season. Keep your vine watered if it does not rain and be patient. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
