Question From: OREGON
Q: My honeysuckle started getting new leaves on the old stems. I pruned the vine and then the leaves shriveled up. Now it’s coming up from bottom. It did the same thing 2 yrs ago but not last year. What’s its problem?
A: My guess is the shriveling of the leaves is caused by frost damage. Wild swings in temperatures ( warm during the day and freezing or almost freezing at night) damages the leaves and causes die back. The fact that new growth is coming from the bottom tells me the vine is still alive. Give Mother Nature a bit of time to see where dieback has occurred and prune out the dead stuff.
