Horse Chestnut Tree Has A Weeping Canker Split Bark And No Chestnuts This Season

Question From: G. Fate - Charlevoix, Michigan, United States
Q: The Horse Chestnut tree (planted 5 yrs. 20 ft tall) has split bark at the base, lowest branches appear dead, no chestnuts this season, a weeping canker has appeared on the exposed trunk. Is there any treatment, wrap to see this tree thru Winter? We are in zone 5, Charlevoix, Michigan.

Wrapping will not help. I would get and onsite inspection from a professional. To find a certified arborist in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
