Question From: I. Soloway - VIRGINIA
Q: I've gotten conflicting and confusing info on fertilizing barberry. Some say Holly Tone and some say Plant Tone. Some say twice a year and some say once a year. Also I'm experiencing leaf drop on my golden barberrys. Any advice? Thanks
A:
Either Holly Tone or Plant Tone fertilizer works. Best to fertilize once a year. Late fall is when I do it. Lack of water will cause leaf loss. Check the soil under plant to make sure it's moist. These plants need an inch of water a week. Get and tuna or cat fish can or better yet a rain gauge and check it out. Best and Happy Yardening, Nancy
