How Much To Water Crepe Myrtle

Question From: S. Fralin - TEXAS
Q: I planted 2 Crape Myrtles in June. I have watered the new trees about every 3 days for 45 to 60 minutes with a slow stream. The leaves look like it’s not getting enough water but now I’m thinking I have over watered. I live in central Texas. How much water do they need?

There is no pat answer to this question. It depends on the soil, the ambient temperatures, the amount of rain fall and every location is different. The soil should remain moist at all times but not be sodden. If the soil is sodden there is no oxygen in the soil and the trees will drown. Best and Happy Yardening, Nancy.
