How To Fertilize And Prune Boxwoods

Question From: r. ostberg - NEW JERSEY
Q: I put holly tone on our boxwoods just prior to dec rain. Is this a bad fertilizer for these plants. what is remediation strategy. what is best time of year to prune for shape?

Rick, Hollytone is perfect for boxwoods. I fertilize once a year, so you are good to go. Best time to prune is late winter for very early spring so new growth will cover the cuts. Unless you like that hard edge look. Then you can do it anytime after the flush of new growth. I would not do it, however, during the heat of summer. Happy Yardening, Nancy
