How To Grow Garlic In The South

Question From: S. Marks - Bradenton, Florida, United States
Q: I saw your column on growing garlic when I was in Michigan. Now I am in Sarasota, FL and would like to try it. Do you have any tips for growing garlic in my area of Florida? Thanks in advance.

Sanford, I have no hands on experience but here's what I read. It can be planted from October through December. You need to buy the kind that grows well in the south. Try an independent garden center or feed store. Folks recommend putting the bulbs in the fridge for six weeks prior to planting. I'd use a small plastic container. Google master gardeners in Sarasota FL to see if you can find a contact to get more info. Best Nancy and Happy Yardening.
