How To Identify Tree In Yard

Question From: LOUISIANA
Q: There are small trees in the yard of the home we recently purchased. It's leaves are green and turn purple at certain times. It also blooms (in fact, is blooming now) giving a small flower, fuchsia in color. We were told it could be of the hawthorn family and that many people keep it's size as a bush, but these are about 10 to 12 ft. tall. The limbs remind one of a crepe myrtle.. What is its name??

Because I live in Michigan, I can't answer that question. Take a sample of the flower to your local independent garden center that sells trees and ask for an ID. Best Nancy
