How To Keep Potted Wine Rose Weigelas Over Winter Before Transplanting In Spring

Question From: Ypsilanti, Michigan, United States
Q: I recently brought some wine rose Weigelas that came in a small plastic container. I am moving to Kentucky in a week, and would like to plant them in the spring. My question is what is the best way to keep them during the winter? Should Iput them in a larger pot and keep them inside? Thank you. I would appreciate any help.

These are not indoor plants. They need to go dormant so I would plant them in larger pots and store them in an unheated garage. Toss a couple of ice cubes or some snow on the the surface of the soil so it stays moist throughout the winter. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
