How To Make Wax Myrtle More Like A Shrub Than A Tree

Question From: E. Scott - Kenly, North Carolina, United States
Q: I have several wax myrtles that have been pruned in tree form but would like for them to revert back to a shrub form. Can this be done and how does one go about doing this? The trees now are about 12 feet tall.

Emily, I have no experience with Wax Myrtles. But they do sucker so if you let those suckers go they will get shrub-like. What they will look like is another matter. I would go to an independent nursery or garden center that sells them as ask for their advice. Take photos with you. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
