How To Mulch Under Spruce Trees

Question From: V. Besselink - Bozeman, Montana, United States
Q: Hi NANCY.' Living in Alberta Canada.....I am starting to clean out my Spruce Tree Lined Driveway. 24 large 40 ft trees. I have mulch to put under them that is poplar trees mulched. How much do I take out from under trees. Lots of Poplar leaves and about 4' of spuce needles. I started one tree and the needles are about 4 " deep. Thank you Added Zip code for Similar climate.

4 inches of mulch is max. Do not bank it up next to the trunks. Leave a six-inch space. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
