How To Prevent Coneflowers And Rose Of Sharon From Taking Over Garden

Question From: F. Koby - Southfield, Michigan, United States
Q: My garden and any free space is being overrun by Coneflowers and Rose of Sharon. What can I do?

A: Cut off the tops of the Rose of Sharon seedlings when they first emerge. Also get rid of the Mother Bush. Dig out all of the cone flowers or if you choose to keep some remove the flowers as soon as they fade so they don't reseed. Another method is to carefully paint the leaves of the coneflowers with RoundUp. It kills any plant it touches so spraying is not an option. You can also use it on small Rose of Sharon bushes. It may take two applications. Again use this stuff with great care so you don't kill the good stuff. Good Luck. Nancy
