Q: can you prevent the linden from forming the "nuts"? What causes the projections on the leaves?
A: A company called Monterey makes a product called Florel that prevents some trees from producing fruit. Don't know if it works on Lindens. I would contact a certified arborist for advice. To find one in your area go to tcia.org and enter your zip code. My guess is the projections are gauls. They won't hurt the tree, so I would ignore them.
