How To Prevent Locust Tree From Producing Pea Pods

Question From: B. Dilley - ILLINOIS
Q: Is there a way to get my locust tree to stop producing the pea pods? The trees are 25 years old and new produced pods till the last 12 years or so.

Your tree is a female and those pea pods contain seeds that allow the specie for reproduce. Spraying the tree with a hormone at the proper time will prevent the tree from producing seeds. Contact a certified arborist for more information and costs. The product not available for use by homeowners. If you buy a another tree make sure it's a male. Best and Happy Yardening, Nancy.
