How To Prevent Sprouts From Coming Off Above Ground Roots At Base Of Tree

Question From: Saint Charles, Illinois, United States
Q: The above ground roots at the base of my tree has little sprouts (buds). I trim them off but they keep coming back. Is there a way to trim them and then seal them so that they do not sprout again?

Paul, those sprouts are called suckers. There are a couple of products available you can try. Sucker Stopper by Monteray and Sucker Punch by Bonide. Read and follow the directions carefully. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
