How To Protect Geraniums And Petunias From Too Much Rain

Question From: D. Baker - Lee Center, New York, United States
Q: We are having an extreme amount of rain in the north east - my potted geraniums look terrible - spindly, leave falling off. It has been raining every day. The other day the sun was out all day but not nearly enough to dry the plants out. What do I need to do for my geraniums and actually my petunias?

Short of covering them with an umbrella, there is nothing you can do. If they are in pots move them to a protected area. If they are in the ground pray for sun. When the weather clears I would fertilize them with a water soluble fertilizer, such as Jack's Classic according to package directions. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
