How To Prune Saucer Magnolia That Has Been Damaged By Frost

Question From: J. Gross - Collegeville, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: I have a large Saucer Magnolia (Zone 6B) that must be 15 years old. This year, it suffered some frost damage after blooming and looks terrible. I also need to prune back for height since it is covering my 1st floor windows and heading toward the second floor. I have successfully pruned in other years, just not recently. How should I proceed in pruning owing to the recent frost damage?

A: I can't answer that question Janice. I suggest you take photos to your local independent nursery that sells these trees for recommendations. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
