Question From: L. DeSalvo - Shawnee, Kansas, United States
Q: I have a large pachysandra bed, a problem is that a variety of weeds grow throughout the bed. I have been removing them by hand but seems to be a losing battle. I there a product available to kill the weeds without killing the pachysandra.
A: Sadly, there is not. Your best bet to dig out the pachysandra, Remove the weeds, being sure to get all the roots and replant the pachysandra. You could carefully paint the leaves of the weeds with Round Up, but be aware that it will kill any and all plants it touches, so this to is a tedious process. But that is how I get rid of bind weed that infests my garden. Q: would using Preen in the spring control the weeds without affecting the pachysandra?
A: Preen is a pre-emergent herbicide, meaning it prevents annual seeds from developing into plants but it will not kill existing plants. It is safe for your ground covers, but do read and follow the directions. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
