How To Treat Borers In Apple Tree And What Kind Of Paint Is Recommended For Sealing Tree Cut Wounds

Question From: M. Mann - Marshall, North Carolina, United States
Q: Borers in Apple tree, if in main trunk, what can be done? When cutting off damaged branches what type of paint used to seal wounds is the most protective.

Paint is not recommended to seal the wounds. Research shows it slows healing and often encourages disease, Let Mother Nature do her thing. Your tree probably has round headed apple tree borer. Control is to spray the adults before they lay eggs. This requires regular spraying. For an effective product and timing consult your local independent garden center or nursery for accurate advice. Timing and product vary from state to state. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
