How To Treat Viburnum That Has Some Leaves Turning Dark With Whitish Hue

Question From: k. frye - Middletown, Ohio, United States
Q: I was wondering how to treat my viburnums for possible fungal problems. Not sure if that is the problem. I live in southwest Ohio. Planted these three years ago for privacy in my back yard. When I noticed my male Dobey peeing on them I surrounded them with an electric fence. That was two years ago. Well in August the last two years the leaves on SOME of the plants leaves start turning dark with slight whitish hue to them. How can I get these bushes to grow faster. Thanks for your info.

My guess is your viburnums have powdery mildew. Keeping the shrubs watered so the soil stays moist and fertilizing with Espoma Plant Tone according to package directions in late winter will keep them happy. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
