Hyacinth Blooms Have Turned Black And Dry

Question From: D. Cannon - NORTH CAROLINA
Q: I planted hyacinth the first week of April. We've had some very hot days recently (80+) and the bloom has turned black and dry, although I watered them regularly. The leaves and stems look healthier than ever! Do I cut the bloom off or have I completely lost that plant?

A:

These bulbs are planted in fall. Cut the dead bloom off and let the foliage grow till it begins to turn yellow. Cut it off at the soil line and next spring you should have a new show. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
