Hydrangea Florets Have Tiny Flying Ant-Like Bugs And Mums Have Holes In Leaves

Question From: B. Frigmanski - Wayland, Michigan, United States
Q: My daughter has a pinky windy panicle hydrangea. She has what looks like a flying aunt (tiny) on her florets. Also has holes on her mum leafs and others. Could this be the same insect and what do you think it is. thank you so much.

The bugs on the hydrangeas may be beneficials feeding on the nectar of the hydrangea flowers and are not the same as those on the mums. I don't have a crystal ball so cannot identify the insects damaging other plants. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
