Hydrangeas Have Lush Foliage But No Blooms

Question From: R. Hall - KENTUCKY
Q: My question is about our Hydrangeas, We have Niko Blue; Limelight and the Strawberry/Vanilla. All three have very lush foilage but no blooms or buds. I fertilized with Hollytone. What can be the problem? Thanks

A: The usual causes for lack of bloom is over fertilizing or lack of sun. Pruning the Niko Blue after August removes buds for next year's bloom. I have hydrangeas I've never fertiized and they bloom like crazy. If these plant are in shade move them so they at least get morning son. Best Nancy and Happy Yarding
