Impatiens Losing Leaves And Flowers

Question From: S. Bender - TEXAS
Q: My empatiens, which were gorgeous until the last two weeks, are being stripped of their leaves and flowers, leaving only stalks. Help!!

They probably have Impatiens Downey Mildew, a fungal disease. It is terminal. Pull them out and carefully deposit them in a garbage bag. The bad news is the spore may be in your soil and could live for several years. Researchers are working on developing a fungicide but they aren't there yet. Check with your local independent garden center for replacements.  Best and Happy Yardening, Nancy
