Indoor Ivy Plant Leaves Turned Very Dry

Question From: Martinsburg, West Virginia, United States
Q: I have three indoor ivy plants over the sink in a west kitchen window. They don't get much sun.I have never fed them. I water once the soil gets dry, usually twice a week. One plant developed leaves that are dry and resemble paper. I just crumbled them and threw it away. What caused that? thanks.

A: Probably a combination of lack of sun, nutrients and possibly lack of moisture. The one that died may have been shaded by the others. It does need some sun. The pros recommend 3 hours of sun a day. I would fertilize them every couple of weeks when actively growing at half strength and give them a rest from October to March. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
