Is Katsura Tree Good In Wet Soil

Question From: PENNSYLVANIA
Q: I was considering planting a Katsuma in a full sun environment where the soil is moist ( even wet a great deal of the time). Would I be wasting my effort? Should I reconsider maybe a Red (Scarlet) Maple or Silver Maple.? The Katsura's pretty foliage and fragrance were two of the selling points that caught my attention in a catalog. thank you in advance for taking the time to respond. rps

I think you're thinking of a Katsura tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) Woody guru Michael Dirr loves this tree but did not include it in his listing of trees that tolerate wet feet. So I would go with the Red Maple. Silver maples grow fast but are subject to lots of branch loss and are considered by many to be a trash tree. Happy Yardening, Nancy
