Ivy Leaves Are Pale After Snow Season

Question From: R. Kicinski - Valparaiso, Indiana, United States
Q: I have Ivy growing on a sign post in my yard. We had a very bad winter and the leaves of the ivy are a pale color looking like it was burned from the snow. This plant had a tremendous amount of new growth last summer. Do I need to trim it, cut it back, or just let it go? Does it get new leaves every year or will the leaves green up? The leaves are green at the soil level.

A: Ivy is pretty tough stuff. If the stems are still alive new leaves will emerge. If not prune it back till you see green just inside the bark. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
