Question From: Billerica, Massachusetts, United States
Q: The bark is missing 2/3 of the way around the base of my Japanese Thread Leaf Maple Tree. at the base. The tree is 20 years old and was doing well until this year. It does not look like an animal has chewed on the trunk at the plaace the bark is missing. I had poor looking leaves this summer. Other Japanese thread leaf trees in the immediate area look good. What should I do to prevent further bark distruction to the trunk of this beautiful tree?? Location: Boston, MA
A: Nancy, If you wish to save this tree, enlist the services of a certified arborist for an on-site inspection. If it is a disease you may be putting the other trees at risk. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
