Licorice Plants Are Getting Woody Looking And Starting To Die In Spots

Question From: B. Elenteny - Walnut Creek, California, United States
Q: My licorice plants are starting to die in spots, getting very woody looking. Does this mean lack of water? If I prune all dead wood away will that bring the plants that are doing ok to fill in? Thank you These plants have been in a dirt median strip for about 6 years and have done great so far.

Barbara, I have no expertise in growing these plants as perennial shrubs as I live in Michigan. For us they are annuals. My guess is they are getting old and may need replacing. Check with your local garden center or nursery that grows these plants. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
