Lilac Grows But Does Not Bloom

Question From: Bend, Oregon, United States
Q: Area code 97702 a i;iacs has not bloomed in a few years what does it need? cut back 2014 fall good growth 2015 no flowers. What type fertilizer? Located west side close to house. Probably 20 years old. HELP

Pepper, if you cut it back in fall you cut off all the spring flower buds Lilacs should be pruned after they bloom in spring. Relax, take a deep breath and let Mother Nature do her thing. Too much fertilizer will stimulate a plant to grow not flower. I have a hundred year old lilac down the road from me that continues to flower every season and has never been fertilized.
