Q: Area code 97702 a i;iacs has not bloomed in a few years what does it need? cut back 2014 fall good growth 2015 no flowers. What type fertilizer? Located west side close to house. Probably 20 years old. HELP
A: Pepper, if you cut it back in fall you cut off all the spring flower buds Lilacs should be pruned after they bloom in spring. Relax, take a deep breath and let Mother Nature do her thing. Too much fertilizer will stimulate a plant to grow not flower. I have a hundred year old lilac down the road from me that continues to flower every season and has never been fertilized.
