Little Leaf Linden Tree Has Some Dead Branches And Small Caterpillars Eating Leaves

Question From: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Q: I noticed my little leaf linden tree which is about 20 years old has many dead branches and branches with no leaves making it look bare. Upon closer inspection, I found small caterpillars eating the leaves. The caterpillars are around 1/2" to 1" long, thin and dark. Is there something I can do to help my tree?

A: Your best bet is to get an onsite inspection from a certified arborist. It may have more then one issue and playing a guessing game could cost you your tree. To find a professional in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
