Magnolia Leaves Are Brown And Bark Is Gone In Middle Of Tree

Question From: Ridgeway, South Carolina, United States
Q: My magnolia leaves are ALL turning brown. The bark is gone in the middle of the tree..... Maybe deer rubbing on it....how do I help the tree to survive??

A: Melanie, My guess is your tree is toast. When the bark is removed, so is the cambium layer that moves water and nutrients from the soil to the tree and there is no way to repair it For a more accurate Id get an onsite inspection from a certified arborist. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
