Marigold And Other Leaves Get Silvery Streaks And Plants Die

Question From: Taylors, South Carolina, United States
Q: Hi Nancy, Please help me. Everytime I plant marigold soon the leaves have sivery streaks and the plant eventually dies. I love Marigolds, this disease also creeps onto to my Lantanas and other plants.

A: Shay, Sounds like slugs. As they crawl over the plants they leave a slime that dries to a shiny crust that some describe as silver. They feed at night. After planting scatter a slug bait such as Sluggo or Bonide Slug Magic on the surface of the soil according to package directions. Repeat every 10 days until the product is no longer eaten. You may have to use it throughout the season. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
