Marigold Blooms Are Turning Brown And Other Nearby Plants Are Not Doing Well

Question From: D. Nichols - Sturbridge, Massachusetts, United States
Q: My marigolds blooms are turning brown and I have around a four inch high red spearheaded fungi growing in the mulch around them. My miniature roses, clematis and morning glory are not doing well in the same bed. Could the red mulch my husband used be the cause. We have always had organic mulch in the past and have not had the same problems.

I am not a fan of that red mulch as it is made of dry wood pallets from god knows where and contains no beneficial organisims. That said, I do not think it effects your plants. Excessive heat may well be the issue. Marigolds may need watering. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
