Marigold Buds Barely Bloom Before Turning Black

Question From: B. Gerlach - Dana Point, California, United States
Q: Our merigolds have plenty of buds, but when the buds open they seem to barely bloom before the flower gradually turns black which I presume is what happens when the flower dies. Very few of the buds bloom to a full flower. It is more of a wispy fragile flower that barely opens, as if they just don't have the energy to fully bloom. Have you heard of this condition before? Thank you.

A: Bill, I believe your marigold have a fungal disease. Try treating them with a fungicide listed for those plants that can be purchased at your local independent garden center. Avoid overhead watering if possible. A long handled watering wand works well. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
