Marigolds Have Knobby Lesions Near Base

Question From: VIRGINIA
Q: My marigolds have a knobby, gnarly lesions near the base of the plant. they have grown little since I planted them around Memorial Day this year 2022. Some of the plants are doing well and the ones in pots are very healthy.

A: My guess is your marigolds have a fungal disease. Could be root rot. I recommend you remove them. roots and all and throw them in the trash. Do no plant these plants in that location for three or more years.  Best Nancy
