Question From: Wallingford, Connecticut, United States
Q: Hi my tulip tree is a mature tree and has been on my property since I was a child and am now 56. We recently received very strong winds my guess 100 mph. My tulip tree has lost alot of its crown however if you look at it from front looks okay, if you look at it from backside not so pretty. My question is I have a tree man who says if the crown is gone tree will die. Needless to say I am heartbroken. Is he correct?
A: Diane, I am not a trained in the care of trees. However, I can tell you that trees get their nutrition ( carbohydrates) from their leaves. If the loss is heavy the tree will not survive. If you would like a second opinion go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code to find a certified arborist in your area. Best Nancy
