Mountain Ash Has Borers That Fly And Are Noisy

Question From: Gorham, New Hampshire, United States
Q: I have a mountain ash that makes beautiful berries. this year the tree has some sort of borer that is making holes. I don't know what kink they are but they have wings and when they are flying it is VERY loud. do you have any idea what they are and how to kill them before they kill the tree? THANKS

Borers are tough to get rid of. If it were my tree I would get an onsite inspection from a professional certified arborist. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. You might also wait until spring and spray the trees with horticulture oil. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
